We are a mobile service and can assess at the child’s school or daycare, depending on availability of a quiet room.
We understand that the process can feel overwhelming at first, especially with the wide range of assessments available. We don't expect you to know which assessment is right for your child. That's why we are here to guide you through the process.
We will help you gain a clear understanding of your child's requirements. We will provide a personalised assessment plan and a quote that is tailored to their specific needs. Don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to offer our support and expertise.
No, there's no need for any type of referral to schedule an appointment with us.
We don't provide treatment ourselves to ensure objective assessments. However, rest assured, you won't be left alone. After making a recommendation, we'll assist you in finding the most suitable type of support for your child.
Psychological assessments are not the type of tests that require studying or revision. However, there are a few ways you can support your child in being prepared and ready to engage during the assessment:
- Restful Sleep and Good Breakfast: Ensure your child gets a good night's sleep before the assessment and starts the day with a nutritious breakfast. A well-rested and nourished child is more likely to be alert and focused during the assessment.
- Hearing and Vision Tests: We may request a hearing and vision test prior to the assessment. This is done to rule out any physical issues that could potentially impact the assessment results. These tests are commonly available with local audiologists and optometrists, and bulk-billed options are often available.
- Open Communication: Talk to your child about the assessment in a positive and reassuring manner. Avoid the word ‘assessment’ or ‘test’. Let them know that it's an opportunity to engage in fun activities and that there are no right or wrong answers. Encourage them to simply do their best.
Most of our assessments are conducted using an iPad, which tends to be appealing and engaging for children. The psychologist conducting the evaluation is experienced in assessing children and has a good understanding of how to make the process enjoyable and interactive. While it's true that children may feel tired afterwards (as they work hard to complete the activities), most of them report a positive assessment experience.
To ensure the validity and accuracy of the assessment results, it is generally recommended that no one else is present in the room during the formal testing. This is because the presence of a caregiver can potentially increase anxiety, create distractions, or lead to interference, which may impact the reliability of the results.
However, it's important to note that this preference may vary based on the specific assessment and the professional judgment of the psychologist conducting the evaluation. They will consider what is most beneficial for your child's assessment process. Rest assured, your child will be in the care of an experienced professional who will create a supportive and comfortable environment throughout the assessment.
This is a common concern; however, it very rarely happens.
Our priority is to create a comfortable and supportive environment for your child's assessment experience. We take our time to get to know the child to help them feel at ease and ready to engage.
We understand that every child has their own unique personality, and we respect their autonomy. We will never force or pressure them to engage in the activities. If your child is hesitant or uncooperative during the assessment however, we are flexible!
In most cases we can pause the assessment to resume on a different day, if necessary.
In most cases, we schedule the feedback session and provide the report within one to two weeks of the assessment. We strive to minimise waiting times and ensure you have the information you need in a timely fashion.
The cost of an assessment depends on the specific components required for the evaluation. While the actual assessment time may seem relatively short (around 1-4 hours in total with the child depending on the assessment), it's important to understand that there is substantial work involved "behind the scenes." This includes analysing rating scales, reviewing information provided by parents and teachers, and extensive report writing, which is the most time-intensive part.
When you reach out to us, we will provide you with a detailed quote for the assessment process, encompassing all associated costs. We are committed to transparency and ensuring you have a clear understanding of the pricing structure. Please don't hesitate to contact us for a quote and assessment plan tailored to your specific assessment needs.
